ABSTRACT
Determining sleep stages accurately is an important part of the diagnostic process for numerous disorders. However, as stage scoring done manually following visual rules there can be considerable variation in staging between different scorers. Thus, this study aimed to comprehensively evaluate inter-rater agreement staging. A total 50 polysomnography recordings were scored by 10 independent scorers from seven centres. We used scorings calculate a majority score taking that was most each epoch. The overall κ = 0.71 and mean with 0.86. perfect 48% all epochs. highest rapid eye movement (κ 0.86) lowest N1 0.41). varied 81% 91%, large variations stage-specific agreements. Scorers same centres had pairwise agreements at 0.79, 0.85, 0.78, while 0.58. also found moderate negative correlation apnea-hypopnea index, well rate transitions. In conclusion, although high, several areas low found, mainly non-rapid stages.
