ABSTRACT
Viroids are small single-stranded RNA pathogens which cause significant damage to plants. As their nucleic acids do not encode for any proteins, they dependant solely on structure propagation. The elucidation of the secondary structures viroids has been limited because exhaustive and time consuming nature classic approaches. Here, method high-throughput selective 2'-hydroxyl acylation analysed by primer extension (hSHAPE) adapted probe viroid structure. data obtained using this were then used as input computer-assisted prediction software in order determine strands both (+) (–) polarities all Avsunviroidae members, one two families viroids. resolution members family provides a global view complexity these RNAs. structural differences between polarities, plausible tertiary interactions, also analysed. Interestingly, found be different each species. recently isolated grapevine hammerhead viroid-like solved. This species shares several features with family, although its infectious potential remains determined. To our knowledge, article represents first report complete
