ABSTRACT
High tibial valgus osteotomy (HTO) is a widely accepted procedure indicated for varus knee with symptomatic osteoarthritis of the medial compartment. However, there lack studies evaluating long term results this procedure. The primary aim study was to evaluate long-term survival opening wedge high isolated in compartment knee. secondary objective identify independent predictors conversion total arthroplasty (TKA).This retrospective 296 cases open HTOs performed at single center (level evidence IV) between January 2005 and August 2015. Opening HTO always after diagnostic arthroscopy. Eighty-three percent population (233 patients, 247 procedures) followed up mean 11.6 years (6-17) by telephone interview, possible TKA. Mean age index operation 42.8 (range 15-70) most patients were male (70%). Associated procedures (e.g., platelet rich plasma supplementation, microfractures, meniscectomy, etc.) carried out time 80 (32%) cases. Survival its association age, sex, body mass index, smoking habit, preoperative severity deformity, cartilage status surgery, associated evaluated. Kaplan-Meier Cox regression analyses performed.Thirty-three (13.4%) converted replacement, 86.6% original surviving 12-year follow-up. estimates 17 75.5% (95% confidence interval [CI] 66.7-84.3). There significant difference (P < 0.001) 17-year rate obese (55.5%; 95% CI 35.3-75.6) non-obese (79.7%; 70.1-89.2) patients. determinants detected multivariate analysis degeneration (Outerbridge grade), age.The satisfactory. risk TKA significantly increased Advanced pre-existing damage may also contribute
