Child deaths with persistent neglected experiences from medico‐legal documents in Japan

ABSTRACT
Few studies have examined the actual conditions of fatal neglect in Japan. The aims this study were to investigate persistent among child fatalities using medico-legal documents, and describe characteristics socio-familial background biological data.The current analyzed documents all postmortem external examinations autopsies children <2 years old carried out one prefecture Japan from 2006 2011. After examining 59 autopsy cases modified Maltreatment Classification System, we identified six who experienced as samples.Three found unsanitary rooms was left alone inside a car. In two cases, age mother at delivery <21 old. Three victims had 1 year older sibling. With regard history use health services, three mothers missed some prenatal care visits, refused receive neonatal home visits. data average weight Z score -2.22 after being adjusted for (in months) sex. acute or chronic undernutrition. thymic involution considered due maltreatment.The present collaboration between public legal medicine has enabled investigation impact experiences neglect. A multidisciplinary system evaluating death is needed identify preventable factors order intervene case neglected timely manner.
