ABSTRACT
We review and analyze the farming (upstream agribusiness supply chain) research literature since 1965 to identify opportunities for operations management (OM) researchers. A majority of reviewed papers in our corpus, until turn 21st century, primarily focus on improving operational efficiency effectiveness using optimization techniques. However, during last two decades, farmers’ welfare interests other stakeholders have drawn OM researchers’ attention. This expanded has become possible due proliferation mobile communication devices Internet as well advancements information technology platforms social media. Our also shows that there is a paucity leverages increased data availability from emergence precision agriculture blockchain address major challenges sector emanating climate change, natural disasters, food security, sustainable equitable agriculture, among others.
