ABSTRACT
Abstract Transrectal ultrasonic‐guided massage of the accessory sex glands (TUMASG) is a technique that allows collecting semen requiring few electrical stimuli or even no pulse. A long‐acting analogue oxytocin (carbetocin, 0.1 mg) was i.v. administered before TUMASG in 10 conscious bucks (Experiment 1) and anaesthetized Iberian ibexes 2) to shorten time collection, decrease number and/or improve quality. The ejaculated volume, concentration, quality parameters kinetics variables sperm were determined fresh semen. length procedures electric pulses applied recorded. Furthermore, stress response indicators (number vocalizations Experiment 1; heart respiratory rates, rectal temperature, cortisol levels, totals proteins neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio documented. In bucks, administration carbetocin tended needed for collection but no‐showed differences seminal ibexes, there significant between groups animals ejaculated. Carbetocin only reduced rate, did it modify characteristics ibexes. conclusion, not appear as useful tool welfare during with having slight advantages related procedure.
