‘Living Together With Dementia’: preliminary results of a training programme for family caregivers

ABSTRACT
The aim of this article was to present the preliminary results a training programme for family caregivers people with dementia at an early moderate stage living home – ‘Living Together With Dementia’. In randomised controlled trial, 27 who met inclusion criteria were recruited from neurology outpatient consultation clinic hospital in north Portugal and into two groups (control experimental) between October 2015 March 2016. Dementia’ applied participants experimental group. strategies used, overload, difficulties satisfaction assessed three different stages (at beginning end intervention, as well follow‐up). For data analysis, quantitative parametric measures applied. Health Ethical Commission Hospital Centre approved study, its protocol Helsinki Declaration ethical principles considered throughout process. final assessment, improvement overload confirmed, increase caregivers’ level coping/problem‐solving strategies. follow‐up stage, tended revert towards those initial assessment. appeared be major contribution enabling dementia, although there is need develop efficacy study using more substantial sample. contributed reduction borne by increased caregiver satisfaction.
