ABSTRACT
Abstract Anecdotal evidence for several developing countries suggests that foreign direct investment and multinational enterprises (MNEs) may be an important conduit of cultural exchange. Recent work in economics has explored the role MNEs play transferring gender equality around globe, but with mixed results. In this paper, we consider implications increased Brazil on transmission high‐quality policy practice. particular, investigate whether workers experience at firms, now employed domestic firms no influence, help to change gender‐specific outcomes their Brazilian companies. We next ask it matters from where originates—that is, do headquarters relatively gender‐equal transfer best practices toward women better than more gender‐unequal countries? Increasing share MNE modestly improves earnings gap some specifications. Additionally, management positions offer strongest positive contributions closing gaps. However, despite many theoretical reasons suggestive empirical previous literature expect differential across FDI‐source countries, our data fail support notion.
