ABSTRACT
The time-resolved autofluorescence of the eye is used for detection metabolic alteration in diabetic patients who have no signs retinopathy. One from 37 phakic and 11 pseudophakic with type 2 diabetes, one 25 23 healthy subjects were included study. After a three-exponential fit decay autofluorescence, histograms lifetimes τi, amplitudes αi, relative contributions Qi statistically compared between corresponding groups two spectral channels (490<ch1<560 nm, 560<ch2<700 nm). change single fluorophores was estimated by applying Holm–Bonferroni method calculating differences sum lifetimes. Median mean τ2, τ3, α3 ch1 show greatest age-matched controls (p<0.000004). lack pixels τ2 ∼360 ps, increased number τ2>450 shift τ3 ∼3000 to 3700 ps when indicate an production free flavin adenine dinucleotide, accumulation advanced glycation end products (AGE), and, probably, protein-bound reduced nicotinamide dinucleotide at fundus. AGE also accumulated crystalline lens.
