ABSTRACT
Research based assessments have a productive and storied history in PER.While useful for conducting research on student learning, their utility is limited instructors interested improving own courses. We developed new assessment design process that leverages three-dimensional evidence-centered design, self-regulated learning to deliver actionable feedback about supporting students' learning. We are using this approach the Thermal Statistical Physics Assessment (TaSPA), which also allows choose goals align with teaching.Perhaps more importantly, system will be completely automated when it completed, making scalable minimal burden researchers. This work represents an advancement how we assess physics at large scale PER community can better support students.
