ABSTRACT
Twenty-nine consonants in the initial position and 31 final of CVC syllables were studied for perceptual confusions. The error matrices positions showed significant differences response. A quantitative procedure was adopted to ascertain which features most listeners, whether or not these similar positions. amount information transmitted bits per stimulus calculated all each feature separately. data indicated that rank order is two comparison with observations made by earlier workers a recent work this laboratory on intelligibility clipped speech provided further evidence show vowel transitions play different rôles recognition consonants.
