ABSTRACT
As the first step toward developing a generic model for acoustically radiating vibrational modes of violin and related instruments, both freely supported edge-constrained top back plates have been investigated as functions shape, arching height, elastic anisotropy, f-holes associated island area, thickness graduations, additional boundary constraints ribs, soundpost, bass-bar present in assembled instrument. Comsol shell structure finite element software has used quasi-experimental tool, with physical geometric properties varied smoothly, often over several orders magnitude, allowing development plate to be followed continuously from those an initially square doubly-arched, guitar-shaped, orthotropic their dependence on all above factors.
