ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT The mechanism underlying the dose effect of probiotics on ameliorating diarrhea has not been fully elucidated. Here, low (1 × 10 9 CFU/ml) or high 11 doses Lactobacillus rhamnosus ATCC 7469 were administered orally to piglets for 1 week before F4 (K88)-positive enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (F4 + ETEC) challenge. Administration a low, but high, L. decreased percentage CD3 CD4 CD8 − T cells in peripheral blood. Notably, transiently increased serum concentrations interleukin-17A (IL-17A) observed after ETEC challenge pigs pretreated with . small intestinal lamina propria and Peyer's patch cells. ileal intraepithelial only high-dose piglets. downregulated expression IL-17A had no gamma interferon (IFN-γ), IL-12, IL-4, FOXP3 mRNA intestine. Expression jejunal IL-2, transforming growth factor β1 (TGF-β1), IL-10 was upregulated low-dose Our findings suggest that amelioration infectious by is associated generation cells, expansion attenuation ETEC-induced increase However, consumption may levels challenge, thus eliciting strong proinflammatory response.
