ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT Cavity disease in white button mushrooms is caused by Burkholderia gladioli pv. agaricicola. We describe the isolation and characterization of six mutants strain BG164R that no longer cause this on mushrooms. The mutations were mapped to genes general secretory pathway (GSP). This first report association type II secretion with a Phenotypes avirulent following: an inability degrade mushroom tissue, highly reduced capacity secrete chitinase protease, number flagella. Using these mutants, we also made novel observation factors causing tissue degradation, thereby leading expression cavity disease, can be separated from mycelium inhibition because continued inhibit growth actively growing mycelia. GSP locus B. was subsequently cloned compared same closely related species, establishing genetic organization gsp operon agaricicola consistent other species genus. identify most common indigenous bacterial population present fruit bodies New Zealand farm, one which, Ewingella americana , found apparent antagonist While investigators have reported enhanced symptoms due interactions between endogenous disease-causing bacteria diseases, best our knowledge antagonistic effect.
