ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT Airway epithelial cells act as the first barrier against pathogens. These recognize conserved structural motifs expressed by microbial pathogens via Toll-like receptors (TLRs) on surface. In contrast to level of expression in lymphoid cells, TLR2 and TLR4 airway is low under physiological conditions. Here we explored whether Klebsiella pneumoniae upregulates TLRs human cells. We found that A549 primary was upregulated upon infection with K. . An isogenic capsule polysaccharide (CPS) mutant did not increase expression. Purified CPS expression, polymyxin B abrogate CPS-induced upregulation.
