ABSTRACT
Nostoc sp. strain MAC cyanobacteria were green in color when grown white light at 30 degrees C and contained phycobilisomes that had phycoerythrin phycocyanin a molar ratio of 1:1. Cells for 4 to 5 days or 39 turned brown greater than 2:1. In addition the change pigment composition, from cells missing 34.5-kilodalton, rod-associated peptide was present cells. The light-induced changes typical chromatic adaptation response cyanobacteria, but induction similar by growth new observation. Phycobilisomes isolated 0.65 M phosphate buffer (pH 7) dissociate ionic strength pH is decreased. Analysis dissociation products suggested two types rod structures: phycocyanin-rich structure 34.5-kilodalton larger phycoerythrin-rich complex. Brown lacked also structures their phycobilisomes. These phycobilisome indistinguishable between cultured those light. A potential role discussed heterogeneity response.
