ABSTRACT
After a transition from high to low oxygen tension, there was twofold 50-fold increase in the content of membrane-bound respiratory pigments Haemophilus parainfluenzae , and were concurrent changes metabolism membrane phospholipids: (i) decrease rate turnover phosphate all phospholipids; (ii) shift simple one-phase, linear incorporation into phospholipids complex biphasic (iii) an total with slight proportion phosphatidylglycerol (PG) phosphatidylethanolamine (PE). Changes rates occurred without change bacterial growth. When compensatory adjustment proportions reached steady state, phospholipid, phospholipids, PG fell. At steady-state cytochromes, PE increased. All through experiment 1.5 divisions, specific activity twice that phosphatidic acid (PA). The turned over 1.2 times more rapidly than PA cells cytochrome levels. If accurate measure precursor for cytidine-5′-diphosphate-diglyceride, which turn lipids, then results these experiments suggested exchange reactions, addition synthesis PA, involved phospholipid metabolism. These reactions sensitive concentration growth rate.
