ABSTRACT
Recently, the emergence of a NADC34-like porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), which causes large number abortions in swine herds, has raised great concern China. In this study, PRRSV variant strain, PRRSV/CN/FJGD01/2021, evolved from recombination between NADC30-like, NADC34-like, JXA1-like viruses was isolated Fujian province 2021, its pathogenicity piglets examined. Animal experiments demonstrated that PRRSV/CN/FJGD01/2021 infection could induce 100% morbidity cause higher viremia, persistently fever (>40°C for 14 consecutive days), significant weight loss, severe histopathological lung lesions compared to NADC30-like FJZ03 strain FJ0908 piglets. The displayed than strains, but lower Chinese highly pathogenic (HP)-PRRSVs Moreover, Ingelvac PRRS modified live vaccine (MLV) provides incomplete cross-protection against heterologous Our findings contribute understanding current epidemic situation IMPORTANCE broad variations virulence. Importantly, undergone complex with local strains since it first emerged 2017 However, recombinant rarely experimentally evaluated pigs. novel sows enduring high-abortion-rate (20%) period China 2021. Notably, phylogenetic analyses revealed is NADC30-, NADC34-, isolates. shown load, persistent fever, moderate clinical signs, exhibited FJ0908, HP-PRRSVs These data indicated intermediate virulence Furthermore, MLV partly provide protective efficacy challenge
