ABSTRACT
<h3>Aim</h3> To assess the provision of UK paediatric and adolescent diabetes services examine changes in service delivery since 2002. <h3>Method</h3> Questionnaires were sent to lead consultant from all (n=205). Questions based on National Institute for Health Clinical Excellence Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines recommendations care childhood. Results analysed using parametric non-parametric tests. <h3>Results</h3> 129 Services (63%) returned questionnaires involving 220 clinics. Staffing has improved 98% consultants have a special interest (89%, 2002). In 88% services, specialist nurse worked solely (53%, Only 21% clinics psychological professional integrated within team (20%, Over 94% offered support with intensive insulin regimens causing problems at school 36% services. Almost offer annual microvascular screening (98–100%) but transitional was variable; only 76% specific local protocols transition organise transfer by letter only. <h3>Conclusion</h3> Paediatric are rising challenge providing high-quality despite prevalence increasingly complex regimes. number key areas serious deficiencies remain.
