ABSTRACT
Introduction Acute psychological stress, as well unusual experiences including hallucinations and delusions, are common in critical care unit patients have been linked to post-critical morbidity such post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression anxiety. Little high-quality research has conducted evaluate interventions that could alleviate longer-term the setting. Our team developed piloted a nurse-led intervention, aimed at reducing patient-reported PTSD symptom severity other adverse outcomes 6 months, for evaluation POPPI trial. Methods analysis This is multicentre, parallel group, cluster-randomised clinical trial with staggered roll-out of intervention. The being carried out 24 (12 12 control) NHS adult, general, units UK evaluating effectiveness cost-effectiveness preventative intervention months. All sites deliver usual 5 months (baseline period).
