ABSTRACT
Paired sera from 60 consecutive patients with acute salpingitis, confirmed by laparoscopy, were examined for serum antibodies to Chlamydia trachomatis, Mycoplasma hominis, and Neisseria gonorrhoeae. By a microimmunofluorescence (MIF) test IgM or IgG C trachomatis both present in 80% of the patients9 indirect haemagglutination (IHA) tests M hominis N gonorrhoeae pilar antigens 40% 18% respectively. In control group 50 pregnant women same three organisms occurred 8%, 6%. Evidence current chlamydial infection was found 35 (58%) gonococcal five (8%) culture serological both. The results antibody correlated severity tubal inflammation (as shown laparoscopy) duration lower abdominal pain before attendance. predictive values positive negative MIF result 44% 83% respectively IHA 36% 100% Significant rises titre 12% patients. A four-fold greater rise indicated probable double infections chlamydia mycoplasmas 7% Thus, at salpingitis appears form only small proportion all cases southern Sweden, nongonococcal commonly occur.
