ABSTRACT
OBJECTIVE--To determine whether interferon alpha-2a, when utilised as adjuvant chemotherapy following ablation of condylomata acuminata (genital warts) by cryotherapy, is effective in the prevention recurrences. DESIGN--Randomised, placebo-controlled, double-blind study. Statistical analysis was 2-tailed Fisher9s Exact Test. PATIENTS--97 patients with recurrent acuminata. INTERVENTION--49 were treated cryotherapy plus subcutaneously administered and 48 received placebo. Of these, 36 37 patients, respectively, completed study evaluable. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE--Clinical eradication for six months chemotherapy. RESULTS--By completion chemotherapy, 10 (28%) recipients 16 (43%) placebo experienced At follow-up, 25 (69%) 27 (73%) In therapy, only 31% 27% remained free recurrences (p = 0.99). CONCLUSIONS--Interferon alpha-2a offers no benefit a chemotherapeutic to used alone therapy genital warts this population condylomata.
