ABSTRACT
The activity of the enzymes central metabolic pathways has been subject intensive analysis; however, Entner–Doudoroff (ED) pathway only recently begun to attract attention. response edd gene knockout in Escherichia coli JM101 and PTS – Glc + was investigated gluconate glucose batch cultures compared with other pyruvate kinase mutants previously constructed. Even though specific growth rates between strain carrying its parent were very similar, reproducible changes consumption biomass yields obtained when grown on glucose. These results support participation ED not metabolism but biochemical processes E. coli. Despite that is a non-PTS carbohydrate, derived strains showed important reductions rates. Moreover, overall resulted increments - pykF mutants. Additional pykA mutant indicate contribution synthesis energy production both carbon sources.Key words: coli, metabolism, Entner-Doudoroff pathway, PT system, isoenzymes.
