ABSTRACT
The kinetic parameters of hexose uptake by the small and large intestine chicken have been determined in vitro. Rates initial influx alpha-methyl-D-glucoside L-glucose were measured everted sleeves duodenum, jejunum, ileum, proximal cecum, rectum. Results show following. 1) Maximal transport capacity values for that jejunum is segment best suited Na(+)-mediated uptake. 2) calculated apparent Michaelis constant (in mmol/l) 11.6 7.8 3.5 2.4 7.1 This suggests that, with exception rectum, affinity carrier progressively increases distal direction. 3) Diffusion indicate hexoses a passive mechanism duodenum cecum significantly higher than other segments. 4) sum mediated mechanisms confers to high absorb hexoses. rectum quantitatively minor role, albeit significant, completing absorptive function.
