ABSTRACT
Xe-enhanced computed tomography (CT; Xe-CT) is a method for the noninvasive measurement of regional pulmonary ventilation in intact subjects, determined from washin and washout rates radiodense, nonradioactive gas Xe, as measured serial CT scans. We used Xe-CT method, along with other quantitative measurements, to investigate distribution lung air content healthy, anesthetized, mechanically ventilated dogs prone supine postures. Vertical gradients were five mongrel both postures at four axial locations. In position, increased dependent location, mean slope 7.3%/cm height, whereas no found any location position. These results agree quantitatively published studies. addition, six different animals studied (3 supine, 3 prone) examine longitudinal content. The lungs more uniformly inflated compared which less well expanded base than apex. Ventilation index, measure relative whole ventilation, steeply apex animals, it was again uniform condition. conclude that provides reasonable, promises be valuable tool determination function.
