ABSTRACT
The long-term survival of patients who undergo surgery for stage IV gastric cancer is poor, due to metastatic spread the tumor. Intraperitoneal chemotherapy (IPT) as a possible treatment peritoneal dissemination has been investigated in number different tumors. aim this study was investigate toxicity and impact early postoperative IPT on with advanced cancer.Between 1993 1997, total 91 underwent potentially curative or palliative resection received intraperitoneal mitomycin C before closure abdominal wound. 5-Fluorouracil cisplatin were administered intraperitoneally days 1-4, repeated at 4-week intervals. All median 3 perfusions. There 24 (26.4%) complications 1 (1.1%) mortality. most frequent hematologic (grade 3-4) leukopenia. major nonhematologic toxicities emesis nephrotoxicity. After follow-up period 26 months, 14 remain alive without evidence recurrence, whereas 75 died recurrence progression disease. all 15.4 months. When according residual tumor analyzed, 36.0 months R0 (curative resection) group, 20.6 R1 group (margins resected specimens showing microscopic diameter each less than mm) 9.0 R2 (macroscopic larger (p < 0.001).IPT found be safe, it appears improve prognosis minimal However, complete cytoreductive mandatory achieving beneficial effect IPT.
