ABSTRACT
Because acute segmental wall motion abnormalities (SWMAs) of the left ventricle are highly sensitive and specific indicators myocardial ischemia, this study compared incidence significance as detected by two-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography surface electrocardiography, during anesthesia surgery in patients at high risk ischemia. During surgery, 24 50 studied had new SWMAs, whereas only six ST segment changes. All with changes also SWMAs: three instances, SWMAs occurred before change, they simultaneously. who intraoperative infarctions persistent one patient Ten healthy requiring noncardiovascular were monitored similarly; none these changes, or infarction. This demonstrates superiority over electrocardiography for detection Furthermore, when persist to conclusion infarction is likely have occurred.
