ABSTRACT
The cardiac natriuretic peptide family includes atrial factor and brain or B-type peptide, also known as iso-atrial (isoANF). Although these peptides contribute to cardiovascular homeostasis, their respective roles remain unclear. To study regulation of isoANF gene expression during progression hypertension, we developed a quantitative polymerase chain reaction protocol measure transcript level in spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR) hearts. At the onset transcripts 5-week-old SHR were 50% those age-matched Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) rats, whereas was similar atria twofold higher ventricles. Because are major sites ventricles predominantly synthesis, total messenger RNA (mRNA) hearts about that WKY mRNA content already than control rats. In left ventricular septa, hypertension led maximal increase fourfold levels, respectively, with no detectable change right older SHR, levels comparable controls. These data indicate that, although increased blood pressure stimulates both expression, two genes is not temporally coordinated all compartments. Furthermore, induced at stage, hyperresponsive compared factor. Thus, might represent very sensitive marker changes hypertension.
