ABSTRACT
An association between atrial septal aneurysm and embolic events has been suggested. Atrial shown to be associated with patent foramen ovale and, in some reports, mitral valve prolapse. These two latter cardiac disorders have identified as potential risk factors for ischemic stroke. The aim of this prospective study was assess the role an independent factor stroke, especially cryptogenic We studied prevalence aneurysm, ovale, prolapse 100 consecutive patients < 55 years age stroke who underwent extensive etiological investigations. compared these results those a control group 50 patients. diagnosis relied on transesophageal echocardiography contrast that prolapse, two-dimensional transthoracic echocardiography.
