ABSTRACT
Background Hypertension is the leading risk factor for cardiovascular disease worldwide. Patients with blood pressure (BP) response to dietary sodium reduction are referred as “salt sensitive.” Salt sensitivity (SS) might be due differences in storage capacity and erythrocyte SS examines this of red cells. This study aimed test effect a self‐performed reduced diet on BP patients essential hypertension examine whether predicts SS. Methods Results Seventy‐two were included randomized 2:1 either or control group 4 weeks. Blood samples, 24‐hour measurement, urine collection performed before after. The intervention received advice how lower intake. Urinary excretion decreased 66 mmol (95% CI, −96 −37 mmol) compared group. Systolic 9 mm Hg after low‐sodium −13 −4 Hg). Similarly, difference diastolic between groups was 5 −8 −1 We found no correlation at baseline decrease BP, neither systolic nor ( P =0.66 = 0.84). Conclusions Self‐performed feasible led 9/5 did not correlate change lowering Registration URL: https://clinicaltrials.gov ; Unique Identifier: NCT05165823.
