ABSTRACT
The Emergency Medical Services field triage to stroke centers has gained considerable complexity with the recent demonstration of clinical benefit endovascular treatment for acute ischemic stroke. We sought describe a new smartphone freeware application designed assist professionals assessment and destination patients stroke.Review application's platform its development as well different variables, assessments, algorithms, assumptions involved. The FAST-ED (Field Assessment Stroke Triage Destination) is based on built-in automated decision-making algorithm that relies (1) brief series questions assessing patient's age, anticoagulant usage, time last known normal, motor weakness, gaze deviation, aphasia, hemineglect; (2) database all regional according their capability provide treatment; (3) Global Positioning System technology real-time traffic information compute eligibility intravenous tissue-type plasminogen activator or distances/transportation times neighboring in order decision about most suitable any given patient stroke. The great potential improve stroke, it seems capable optimize resources, reduce hospital arrivals times, maximize use both ultimately leading better outcomes. Future studies are needed properly evaluate impact this tool outcomes resource utilization.
