ABSTRACT
The optimal nutritional strategy for critically ill adults at high risk is unclear. To examine the effect of permissive underfeeding with full protein intake compared standard feeding on 90-day mortality in patients different baseline risk. This a post hoc analysis PermiT (Permissive Underfeeding versus Target Enteral Feeding Adult Critically Ill Patients) trial.Nutritional was categorized by modified Nutrition Risk score, defined as score 5-9 and low 0-4. Additional analyses were performed categorizing body mass index, prealbumin, transferrin, phosphate, urinary urea nitrogen, nitrogen balance. Based 378 894 (42.3%) 516 (57.7%) risk. There no association between two categories; adjusted odds ratio (aOR) 0.84 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.56-1.27) 1.01 CI, 0.64-1.61) (interaction P = 0.53). Findings similar using other definitions, exception prealbumin. differed when prealbumin level (≤0.10 g/L: aOR, 0.57 [95% 0.31-1.05]; >0.10 ≤0.15 0.79 0.42-1.48]; >0.15 1.55 0.80, 3.01]; interaction 0.009).Among risk, associated outcomes feeding.
