A detailed morphological and molecular study of the four Opuntia species belonging to ser. Streptacanthae is carried out. No published phylogenetic includes these species. Our data support recognition taxa as separated but related by characteristic having a glabrous epidermis, yellow flowers, red sweet fruits, in present it recovered forming monophyletic group within s.str.
