ABSTRACT
Paepalanthus balansae, P. lundii, and scholiophyllus are morphologically related species growing in swampy areas of central South America, frequently misidentified collections worldwide. We discuss here new relevant morphological data to elucidate the circumscription these species. balansae is maintained as a distinct following its current circumscription, while wide variation understood within broader lundii concept treated synonymous. report herein presence short lateral branches covered by few bracts subtending single or inflorescences for first time balansae. This character, along with floral details scarce molecular available, reinforce that closely Actinocephalus. also provide nomenclatural adjustments types infrageneric names taxa, distribution map images.
