ABSTRACT
We review the intrageneric systematics of day geckos, genus Phelsuma (Squamata: Sauria: Gekkonidae) in light a recently published multigene phylogeny, and provide an overview 19 selected chromatic, morphological behavioural characters for all currently recognized species subspecies genus. To replace previous attempts dividing into phenetic assemblages, we propose following monophyletic groups summarize that partly support this grouping: barbouri group (P. barbouri, P. pronki); dubia berghofi, dubia, flavigularis, hielscheri, malamakibo, modesta, nigristriata, ravenala); mutabilis borai, breviceps, mutabilis); cepediana borbonica, cepediana, guentheri, guimbeaui, inexpectata, ornata, rosagularis as well extinct edwardnewtonii gigas); astriata astriata, sundbergi); madagascariensis abbotti, grandis, guttata, kochi, madagascariensis, parkeri, seippi probably masohoala); lineata antanosy, comorensis, kely, lineata, pusilla, quadriocellata hoeschi); laticauda laticauda, pasteuri, robertmertensi, v-nigra); klemmeri klemmeri); andamanense andamanense) standingi standingi). Due to their equivocal placements based on different molecular markers, refrain from assigning serraticauda vanheygeni any these at time. complement data with new trees partial sequences 16S rRNA gene madagascariensis- elevate dorsivittata parva full rank parva.
