ABSTRACT
This paper presents a comprehensive investigation, backed up by detailed simulations, that the default settings of software based open source Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems (IDPs) are not enough to thwart network attacks in modern high-speed IPv6-only environment. It aims solve this problem improving processing capabilities an IDPS more than one way, with each method being totally independent from other. The proposed solution can be implemented any user running IDPS, without needing escalated privileges. Using IPv6 packet generator, it is shown increase traffic fixed amount time, fails analyse all packets starts dropping them. phenomenon compromises core functionality which stop unwanted traffic. A hybrid has been performance IDPS. Our research involves only system little no tweaking other elements within like routers, switches firewalls. also talks briefly about current future generation IDPSs. simulation concludes improved staggering 200%, approximately, compared built-in
