ABSTRACT
Perceptual stimuli generated by one's actions (i.e., action-effects) attract attention more strongly than that occur independently of the action. Whether a stimulus is perceived as an action-effect or not thought to depend on temporal proximity action and stimulus. Given that, it possible attentional boost action-effects would have specific window. Thus, we assessed whether contiguity between effect modulates capture. We adopted spatial orientating task in which white central fixation two placeholders at left right locations were presented. had conditions; when turned red, participants condition pressed middle key while those non-action did not. Following this, one flashed red for 50 ms cue, after circle target appeared inside either placeholders. condition, keypress caused presentation cue no-action In interval onset was 50, 750, 3550 color change 400, 1100, 3900 (including 350 alternative time condition). Participants quickly depending location. The results support presence strict window; captured external even three seconds This finding implies does result from time-sensitive sensorimotor processing, but reflects general process monitoring.
