ABSTRACT
Nociceptors, the high-threshold primary sensory neurons that trigger pain, interact with immune cells in periphery to modulate innate responses. Whether they also participate adaptive and humoral immunity is, however, not known. In this study, we probed if nociceptors have a role distinct airway skin models of allergic inflammation. both models, genetic ablation pharmacological silencing substantially reduced inflammatory cell infiltration affected tissue. Moreover, found profound specific deficit IgE production these Mechanistically, discovered nociceptor-released neuropeptide substance P helped formation antibody-secreting their release IgE. Our findings suggest nociceptors, addition contributions immunity, play key modulating response, particularly B antibody class switching
