ABSTRACT
First-degree relatives of persons with mood disorder who attempt suicide are at greater risk for disorders and attempted or completed suicide. This study examined the shared distinctive factors associated familial suicidal behavior.First-degree relatives' history DSM-IV-defined behavior was recorded 457 probands, whom 81% were inpatients 62% female. Probands' lifetime severity aggression impulsivity rated, probands' reports childhood physical sexual abuse, attempts, age onset recorded. Univariate multivariate analyses carried out to identify predictors acts in first-degree relatives.A total 23.2% probands had a relative behavior, compared 13.2% not (odds ratio=1.99, 95% CI=1.21-3.26). Thirty percent (30.8%) diagnosis also manifested 6.6% no ratio=6.25, CI=3.44-11.35). Probands without attempts did differ incidence (50.6% versus 48.1%). Rates reported abuse higher family behavior. Earlier rates relatives, relatives.Risk families appears related early disorders, aggressive/impulsive traits, probands. Studies such clinical features at-risk under way determine transmission these features.
