Wormlike micelles properties and oil displacement efficiency of a salt-tolerant C22-tailed amidosulfobetaine surfactant

ABSTRACT
Wormlike micelles formed by amidosulfobetaine surfactants present advantage in increasing viscosity, salt-tolerance, thermal-stability and shear-resistance. In the past few years, much attention has been paid on rheology behaviours of that normally bear C18 or shorter tails. Properties oil displacement performances wormlike counterparts bearing long carbon chain have not well documented. this paper, various properties C22-tailed surfactant EHSB under high salinity (TDS = 40g/L) are investigated systematically, including solubility, interfacial activity. Moreover, its performance is studied for first time. These compared with those C16-tailed counterpart HDPS. Results show Krafft temperature( T K ) decreases from above 100°C to 53°C increase TDS 40 g/L. Increasing concentration semidilute region induces micelle growth rod-like micelles, then worms become entangled branched form viscoelastic solution, which will viscosity several orders magnitude. The tension can be reduced ultra-low level solution below 4.5 mM. Possessing dual functions mobility control reducing tension, a good effect as flooding system, more than 10% higher HPAM same viscosity. Compared tailed surfactant, ultra-long efficient enhancing so enhance recovery. Our work provides helpful insight comprehending surfactant-based fluid new agent quite chemical offshore oilfield.
