ABSTRACT
Extreme teams complete their tasks in unconventional performance environments and have serious consequences associated with failure. Examples include disaster relief teams, special operations astronaut crews. The within which these operate require researchers to carefully consider the context during research process. These may also create formidable challenges process, including constraining data collection sample sizes. Given failure, however, must be navigated so that management of extreme can evidence based. We present an approach for conducting actionable on teams. Our is extension mixed-methods particularly well suited emphasizing context. guides how integrate local into allows recommendations. At same time, our applies intentionally broad framework organizing context, serve as a mechanism through results meaningfully accumulated integrated across Finally, description steps address unique common extreme-team research. While developed mind, we view general applicable more traditional when features impinge team functioning are not adequately represented by typical descriptions literature goal question.
