ABSTRACT
Periodontitis is a chronic infectious disease, characterized by the progressive loss of teeth's supporting tissues, affecting almost 40% entire adult population. An imbalance between localized gram-negative infection and an exaggerated host inflammatory response plays pivotal role in determining gingival tissue damage. Recent evidence suggests that effect periodontitis might not be limited just to oral cavity but it have systemic consequences. Indeed has also been associated with moderate response. Although mechanisms behind this association remain unclear, represent one distant source low-grade inflammation. This could explain increased risk future cardiovascular diseases observed, impaired metabolic control diabetes subjects adverse pregnancy outcomes observed populations suffering from periodontitis. In review we describe pathophysiological processes involved briefly produced support diseases.
