ABSTRACT
This paper discusses a new magnetically assisted externally supplied abrasive-based finishing (MESAF) process and its material removal mechanism. In MESAF, magnetic brush is formed with only ferromagnetic particles, abrasive particles are delivered from separate source as suspension. The experiments were performed on the AZ31 alloy using central composite design, response was recorded percentage change in surface roughness. final roughness value obtained 0.047 µm initial 0.461 15 min of finishing, substantial 79.6% during first 7 min. Texture analysis SEM EDS revealed that MESAF produced random scratching pattern an unaltered composition compared to straight lays traces MgO traditional MAF process. atomic force microscopy uniform texture for finished by residual stress mild abrasion effect finishing. study demonstrated highly effective nanofinishing implants.
