Hospital care for opioid use disorder in pregnancy: Challenges and opportunities identified from a Minnesota survey

ABSTRACT
Objectives: The prevalence of opioid use disorder continues to rise in the United States, with a simultaneous increase diagnosis both during pregnancy and neonatal withdrawal syndrome. Despite these increases pregnancy-related care, little is known about hospital policy implementation related pregnancy. In addition, it unknown whether policies might differ rural or urban hospitals. To better examine issues, Minnesota hospitals were surveyed regarding existence any challenges had been identified. Methods: From August December 2017, research team contacted all that offered obstetric services ( n = 82) survey implementing for pregnancy, among other questions. Fifty-nine respondents (primarily department supervisors) who provided information 72% response rate. Qualitative responses analyzed using qualitative description according location: metropolitan (urban), micropolitan (rural), non-core (rural). Results: Ninety-one percent said they pregnancies affected by at their within last year. Four major identified responses: (1) provider consensus, (2) patient policy, (3) lack resources, (4) low frequency occurrence. All four more frequently compared Conclusion: This study standardizing care disorder, locations. These non-urban may require increased state federal support funding.
