ABSTRACT
An array of 29 vector magnetometers was operated in N-NE Brazil from November 1990 until March 1991. We present the analysis 16 selected quiet days, for which a simple model an equivalent current distribution Sq and EEJ, fits observed maximum amplitude daily variation at midday. In equatorial regions precise latitude profile field is masked by EEJ. This uncertainty resolved assuming that obtained after subtracting ranges, should ratio 0.3 westward to eastward current. With this constraint, combined non-linear least squares inversion EEJ used estimate parameters Onwumechili's distribution. The H Z components are jointly inverted good agreement between calculated data all days. EEJ's main averaged days were: A total positive intensity equal 67 ± 20 (103 A) diurnal range M4 (or 80 M3) half-width 403 km. centre located 21 km south dip equator. estimated several permanent observatories found be centred mean 5.5 2 degrees south.
