ABSTRACT
Abstract Background The Mycobacterium genus encompasses at least 192 named species, many of which cause severe diseases such as tuberculosis. Non-tuberculosis mycobacteria (NTM) can also infect humans and animals. Some are emerging concern because they show high resistance to commonly used antibiotics while others evaluated in bioremediation or included anticancer vaccines. Results We provide the genome sequences for 114 mycobacterial type strains together with 130 available genomes we generated a phylogenetic tree based on 387 core genes supported by average nucleotide identity (ANI) data. 244 cover most species constituting genus. sizes ranged from 3.2 8.1 Mb an 5.7 Mb, identified 14 new plasmids. Moreover, consisted phage-like ranging between 0 4.64% dependent number IS elements varied 1 290. Our data revealed that, depending mycobacteria, tRNA non-coding (nc) RNA differ that their positions chromosome varied. conserved set 12 ncRNAs, 43 tRNAs 18 aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases among mycobacteria. Conclusions Phages, elements, ncRNAs appear have contributed evolution where several ncRNA been horizontally transferred. On basis our analysis, isolates unnamed known predicted coding correlates size tRNA, rRNA does not. Together these findings expand insight into establish platform understand pathogenicity, evolution, antibiotic resistance/tolerance well function
