Association between air temperature and emergency admission for esophagogastric variceal bleeding: a case-crossover study in Beijing, China

ABSTRACT
Studies concerning the impact of air temperature on esophagogastric variceal bleeding (EGVB) have yielded conflicting results. Our study aimed to evaluate correlation between and EGVB.A time-stratified case-crossover design was performed. Patients received emergency gastroscopic hemostasis for upper gastrointestinal Jan 1, 2014, Dec 31, 2018 in Fifth Medical Center PLA General Hospital were enrolled. Conditional logistic regression analysis applied determine association EGVB different lag structures.A total 4204 cirrhotic patients diagnosed with The mean number daily cases peaked October (2.65 ± 1.69) fell lowest level July (1.86 1.38), 2.38 1.58 spring, 2.00 1.46 summer, 2.37 autumn, 2.45 winter, respectively (P < 0.0001). In conditional analysis, no significant correlations observed difference found when stratified by age, sex, etiology, liver cancer status, grade varices.Emergency admission showed monthly seasonal fluctuations, while minimum observed.
