Feasibility, acceptability and adaption of dignity therapy: a mixed methods study achieving 360° feedback

ABSTRACT
Dignity Therapy (DT) is a short-term intervention to reduce psychological suffering in end-of-life care. Its strength lies evidenced-based development and investigation. The aim of the present study investigate feasibility DT at German palliative care units (PCU), as well acceptability adaption version question protocol (DTQP). A clinical multicentre mixed methods study, whereby patients relatives provided quantitative (feedback questionnaires) qualitative (cognitive interviews) data on intervention. Before using DTQP patients, healthcare professionals (HCP) were invited participate cognitive interviews provide input DT. Therefore 360° feedback was achieved. Finally, conducted examined. took place two PCUs (Mainz Würzburg). Participating HCPs physicians, psychologists, nurses chaplains. Patients admitted eligible if they had terminal illness life expectancy ranging from 2 weeks 12 months. Results: Out 410 72 30 (7.3% all 41.7% patients) participated. On average, 9 questions used per interview. Subsequent with produced four main categories (on title, protocol, wording, actually asked). participants, 19 completed questionnaire, did 26 relatives. Of those, 18 24 evaluated helpful. feasible for PCUs. Our research yielded validated translation following EORTC guidelines findings reported according COREQ checklist design. Trial registration. registered retrospectively 22nd December 2017 Clinical Trials Register ( DRKS00013627 ).
