Women in a situation of homelessness and violence: a single-case study using the photo-elicitation technique

ABSTRACT
Abstract Background Violence against women places them in a vulnerable position with regard to homelessness. Although sometimes invisible, women’s homelessness is complex reality shrouded dramatic biographies that should be sensitively addressed avoid revictimization. Methods With the aim of understanding chaotic discourse homeless experiences violence, qualitative single-case study was conducted using photo-elicitation technique. Data were analyzed accordance grounded theory. Results The participant’s could summarized following categories: “Living spiral violence”, “Confronting vulnerability and “Being strong woman”, “New family networks”, “Re-building mother–child relationships”, “Nurturing spiritual wellbeing”. Conclusions Supporting requires an approach focuses on prevention re-victimization consequences violence terms physical mental health. Shelters are spaces care for recovery represent referential elements re-construction self.
