Challenges of and possible solutions for living with endometriosis: a qualitative study

ABSTRACT
Abstract Background Endometriosis as a chronic gynecological disease has several negative effects on women’s life, thereby placing huge burden the patients and health system. The impact of living with endometriosis (impaired quality diverse medical experiences) is detailed in literature, however, we know less about patients’ self-management, social support, meaning life disease, needs patients. To implement proper multidisciplinary approach practice, need to have comprehensive view complexity history. Methods Four focus group discussions were conducted between October 2014 November 2015 by team consisting psychological specialists. 21 women (age: 31.57; SD = 4.45) surgical histological confirmation included study. Discussions audiotaped transcribed verbatim, 62,051-word corpus was analyzed using content analysis. Results main themes emerged from analysis: (1) (2) experiences, (3) complementary alternative treatments, (4) different coping strategies management. All interrelated highly affected lack information uncertainty caused endometriosis. A supporting doctor-patient relationship, active coping, support identified advantages over difficulties. Finding positive after accepting increased possibility posttraumatic growth. Furthermore, at all levels ecological promotion. Conclusions Our results highlight for healthcare programs interventions find solutions difficulties achieve this goal, collaboration professionals, psychologists, organizations needed near future.
